Look at this nickel. A simple five cents.
“Would you be upset and ruin your whole day if you lost a nickel?”, my husband asked me.
I smugly looked back at him and said NO.
He then went on to ask that why then do I get so upset with five extra pounds-or five bad minutes in a day?
I ponder that…
Truth is he’s right. I cringe when I say that but it’s true. He is right, I admit that.
You see based on where we are in life we need to make note of our perspective. If I was a seven-year-old girl saving up money to buy myself a new toy and I only needed twenty-five cents more, than yes… losing five cents would be a big deal to me…. but as an adult he’s right, losing a nickel at the end of a day is really not that brutal…
But, then again if I was living on the street and someone threw a few nickels into my cup to make up a dollar to buy myself a hot cup of coffee then… yes losing that five cents would hurt.
I’m learning that it’s all about perspective. What we see may not be what someone else sees.
What we feel may not be what someone else feels and what we need may not be what someone else needs.
Each of us are unique and different and that is what makes us who we are. The way I see the world and respond to it, are probably different than you do. And that’s okay.
We can all hold a nickel in our hand but it’s what we do with that nickel that keeps us in check.
Throw it in a tip jar, add it to your piggy bank or drop it in the snow for someone else to find… everything means something different to someone else.
Everyone’s story is different. Everyone’s perspective is different.
My challenge to you in the ‘Joy Journey’ this week is to take five cents… five simple cents and decide what to do with it. Bury it in the snow for someone else to find, pass it to a child or add it to a coin jar and label the jar with something like ‘New pair of shoes’, etc… in all scenarios that nickel is going to bring joy so figure out how you want to do that. It’s amazing what five cents and a little perspective on it can do.
We’ve got this!!
